cthibertHello.  Can anyone provide some advice on 2 million record tables? I've such a table and it runs into system lock shortages when trying to read it.  I've tried upping the lock values with CBF and now the error seems to be around virtual memory.  However, before I just keep increasing numbers, is there anyone else that has done tuning for 2million record tables?12:23
pborois readlock=nolock a viable solution?12:29
cthibertHmm, would be good for what I'm doing now.  May be as long term, would have to look into how this will be used in the future.  Thanks pboro.12:38
pborobig pages and page level locking would be my best bet after readlock=nolock12:42
pboroand checking that queries don't unnecessarily do full scans... I hope 10.0 with its support for MVCC helps with these :)12:43
cthibertYeah, unfortunately this is a full scan.  Map generation for geo.  It needs to get all the points of interest to put them on the map.  At this point it's exhausting the 'virtual address space of the process' when 'expanding the virtual size of server.'  It's an O/S error it appears.  Hmm, looks like I may have to tell the O/S to let this happen, or mess around with the application side to control the queries bett12:54
hanje04cthibert: you may not have a choice. Max user space memory on x86 Linux is 3Gb, are you anywhere near that?13:14
cthibertHmm, probably.  Top showed mem usage over 50% on a 4gb system.  Not quite there, but also, not even close to the total record count when I get there.13:15
cthibertTime to dig into the application side.  Thanks for the help all.13:16
