Mud2Majikthise: Not so much users here ;)11:39
MajikthiseI think you're the first other person I've seen in here in years tbh ;)11:42
Majikthisethis channel was a little more lively a few years back, when Ingres Corp were trying to make a big push into the OSS world11:43
Mud2Thanks for staying all those years in this channel then :)! Hows Ingres doing today?11:50
Mud2I mean with popularuty etc11:50
Majikthisewell, they got taken over by Actian and I think they're doing alright, as a small-ish cloud services provider that also happens to release a DBMS11:58
Majikthiselast time I went to their UK office for training it seemed fairly well-sorted11:59
Majikthisethey still have some big clients like the MOD and the Norwegian Police11:59
Majikthiseit's flippin' difficult to hire Ingres developers now though. When we advertised last year, we only found one, and she'd not used it for a decade (fortunately she has a good memory so we hired her)12:01
Mud2Nice :)13:14
Mud2In my work (I work as IT Engineer) nobody heart of it, its small against mysql/mssql13:15
Mud2Whats MOD?13:15
Mud2Majikthise: : Youre a official employee of Ingres :D ?13:16
Majikthisenah, I just work for a place that uses Ingres13:17
MajikthiseMOD = Ministry of Defence13:17
MajikthiseIngres did used to be huge, years and years ago. It was very popular in the early 90s13:17
Mud2Ahh ok :) Thats counts for me too :P They use a old version of ingres here to I would suggest13:59
Mud2Majikthise: Like netscape in the 90s ?13:59
Majikthisesomething like that, yes14:00
Mud2Majikthise: They use here a DSM  for selling autocars. Build on Linux/Unix in the late 80's, early 90's, client program was originaly on a terminal en then converted to a windows client (ugly as hell, you dont want to see the directory structure and how the clients needs to be installed) and the server is still a unix/linux server with ingres14:02
Mud2I bed for 100$ the database is still a old version of Ingres14:02
Mud2DMS* Dealer Management System or something like that :P14:12
Majikthisewhat's the client? OpenROAD? UpFront?14:19
Majikthisewe still use the terminal forms (along with a web app for non-power-users and for students)14:20
Majikthisewe did use a program called UpFront to present the terminal forms as win16 forms. It was horrible. We switched it off a few years back and told everyone to just use PuTTY instead.14:20
